Tire: SP Sport Maxx GT
Category: Max Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 240 AA A
The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT is a higher volume performance summer tire made for sports cars and coupes, and any other high horsepower vehicles where warm weather traction is paramount. This tire delivers very good driver feedback and has a very aggressive asymmetric tread pattern. Built with a highly refined carbon tread compound that was originally utilized for Dunlop Motorsport, high-speed stability is one of the hallmarks of this tire. As with other summer tires, the manufacturer does not recommend that this tire be driven in ice or snow, or at near freezing temperatures.
Overall, drivers have responded very favorably towards this tire, and I would put it in my top five for this particular performance category. As with other high traction, aggressive tread tires, the SP Sport Maxx GT doesn't have superb longevity and we've found that most drivers will get no more than 36,000 miles out of a set. If you're buying these tires, you're looking for great performance traction whether on the street or track. You really don't want to run these tires down too low anyway. Most have found that the ride is pretty rigid with these tires on city streets, in addition to getting noisy as they age. In my opinion, both are symptoms of a good aggressive summer tire, but I know some drivers are more sensitive to this than others. If you're looking for a great tire that will really perform for you well in summer conditions, I think this one should probably be high on your radar.
