The Yokohama AVID S34B is an often OEM utilized passenger all-season tire with few distinguishing characteristics. You'll see it used on many volume coupes, sedans, and even some minivans. Occasional factory use from pickups, crossovers, and SUVs is also possible. Given it's wide range of uses, it should come as no surprise that this is (very generally) a generic tire. In fact you can use these tires to replace worn out pairs or individual tires, and the S34B can be used with a variety of other tires from other manufacturers as long as they meet the same size and performance specifications. From what we've found, these tires are most often used on the late-model base Subaru Impreza.
The AVID S34B offers just passable traction in all situations. It's not well known as being a tire that will either last a long time, or provide great traction. I'd place it at the lower end of spectrum in terms of looking at all passenger all-season tires. I know a few people that have put about 70,000 miles on a set of these tires, but I really think that's pushing them to the limit. Given that these are most often found on Subaru vehicles which have all wheel drive, I think drivers are more likely to replace them later since their snow traction will be helped by the all wheel drive. Wet traction, even after about 30,000 miles suffers a lot, and snow traction is very much compromised at about 40,000 miles. So keep that in mind if you are replacing these as your tires. If you are in the market for replacing your AVID S34B, I'd recommend looking at other tires on the market that have better traction and longevity. There are probably about 15 tires better than this one that can be found in the Passenger All-Season section of the tire guide, not to mention what can be found in other categories.
