Tire: Potenza RE970AS Pole Position
Category: Ultra High Performance All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 400 AA A
The RE970AS is more or less just another version of the previously reviewed Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position that we have reviewed previously. I should clarify that this is technically the next generation of that tire, and with that said...it comes with some improvements. Bridgestone decided to utilize a different tread compound that is not only better able to cope with winter weather and wet roads, but also on dry pavement. In this particular performance category, this tire is rated incredibly well, and as such, it commands a premium price to its competitors.
As you can see from it's high treadwear rating that this tire will likely last awhile. Most drivers report getting about 60,000 miles out of a set under normal driving conditions, which I would say is really outstanding for the amount of grip these tires provide. Drivers also do not report some of the problems associated with high grip performance all season tires, notably noise. So take some comfort that you'll be able to fit these tires to your car and still be able to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. As I mentioned previously, this tire will likely be more expensive compared to others in this category, but this is a tire that is worth its price. I don't say that often, but based on the feedback that we've seen, this tire provides the all around performance, treadwear, and comfort that all tires are striving for.
