Tire: SP Winter Sport M3 ROF
Category: Performance Winter / Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
This performance winter tire from Dunlop is the run flat version of the SP Winter Sport M3. As I mentioned in the review of that tire, the M3 lineup isn't reviewed as highly as the SP Winter Sport 3D line, and so with all things being equal, the 3D would be my recommendation if you are looking at a performance winter setup from Dunlop. That isn't to say that the Winter Sport M3 is a bad tire, that's definitely not the case, it's just that the Winter Sport 3D has better traction and performance when conditions are at their worst. Back to the M3 ROF, these tires are designed to be low profile, and in the event of a puncture, you'll get to run another 50 miles at 55 mph due to their run flat ability. These tires do meet the industry standard for severe snow service requirements.
For the performance category, these tires bring up the rear of the group. They will provide good traction in snow and ice, just perhaps not as good as other tires in the category. Drivers that that have run them do stick with them for multiple seasons, but most agree that other tires on the market are better once they switch to something else. Most run flat tires do not provide the same longevity as regular tires, so expect to get somewhere around 30,000 miles out of a set, a far cry from the regular SP Winter Sport M3.
