Dunlop Grandtrek SJ6

Brand: Dunlop
Tire: Grandtrek SJ6
Category: Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated

Along with the Grandtrek WT M3, the Grandtrek SJ6 also carries the same imposing sounding name. Something from the caveman period...me, man, go on grand trek. Anyway, this winter tire from Dunlop was developed to be used on trucks and SUVs that are looking for enhanced winter weather traction. This tire has been designed with a special glass fiber compound and a directional tread design in order to enhance traction on dry pavement, and disperse water when times get a little wet. The independent read blocks allow this tire to bite in the snow and help you plow along. This tire meets the industry standard for severe snow service and Dunlop says you should only install these tires in sets of four.

Drivers are very enthusiastic about this tire. I mean, there are some fans out there that swear up and down by the Grandtrek SJ6, kind of similar to Blizzak fans in a lot of ways. People that run these tires have found that you'll usually get over 40,000 miles out of a set and that you'll not notice much traction degradation over the life of the tire either. Interestingly, from what I've found in looking at winter tires, is that this one in particular is typically priced lower than the competition. So perhaps that's why it has a following, because it's more of a value play than others in the category. So keep this tire on your radar, and don't let the (potentially) low price scare you away...this tire will keep you on the road during the most adverse winter weather occasions.
