Tire: Potenza RE97AS
Category: Grand Touring All-Season
UTQG (treadwear): 400 A A
The Bridgestone Potenza RE97AS RFT is more or less a run flat version of the original Potenza RE97AS that we've reviewed as well.I'd say one of the big differences (aside from the run flat-ness) is that this tire is used often used as an original equipment (OE) tire on many higher end sports coupes and sedans. The Potenza RE97AS RFT is probably one of the few run flat tires on the market that can be purchased to replace other grand touring all-season tires in sets or pairs. Meaning if you have an issue with a single tire, there is a good chance this tire would be a comparable replacement, though this is a definite your mileage may vary statement.
In terms of run flat tires, which have different construction and internal structures to regular tires, these do not perform particularly well. Seeing as they are typically used as OE tires, this information does not surprise me. For most people looking at run flat tires, I'd recommend passing on these and focusing on a tire with a better reputation that being a decent direct replacement for a tire with an issue. Otherwise, expect to get somewhere around 40,000 miles out of a set, so maybe a bit less than average for this performance segment.
