Tire: LTX Winter
Category: Light Truck/SUV Studless Ice & Snow
UTQG (treadwear): Not rated
The Michelin LTX Winter is a light truck and SUV tire that has been developed to create a good combination of snow and ice traction, along with having the ability to carry loads. This is a solid tire, and is available in Load Range E for these purposes. So you'll see these tires on light, medium, and heavy-duty vans, trucks, and sport utility vehicles. These tires also carry the low rolling resistance Green X, so they'll give you a bit better fuel economy over competing tires in the performance category. The LTX Winter also uses a very high tech, cold-weather W/Max tread compound, which features MaxTouch Construction. What this all means is that you'll get a tire with reliable traction and a strong contact patch, that will also last a long time. Similar to other winter tires, you'll want to install these in sets of four for safety reasons.
Most drivers have reported, and I can back up from other reviews is that these are one of the better aggressive winter tire for trucks and SUVs. They are easily balanced and produce a very smooth ride. You are likely to get 40,000 miles out of a set, which is pretty standard for winter tires. These tires are so well liked in the commercial space, that many snow plow operators will use these on their rigs...which is a really strong endorsement. So if you are looking for a solid winter tire for your truck, you could do a lot worse than looking at these. We've not heard too many negative remarks about them, and if the price is right, go ahead and give them a strong look.
