Tire: Potenza S001
Category: Max Performance Summer
UTQG (treadwear): 280 A A
This is essentially the McGuyver of tires in this particular performance category. Not that it can 'do' everything, but it is seriously capable in so many ways. The best way for me to describe this tire is that it is sort of like a low rolling resistance version of the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position. Which means that this tire will net you slightly better fuel economy at the expense of reduced traction. You'll oftentimes see this tire used as an original equipment, and this tire is well sold on mainly on the international market. It is no different than other summer tires in that it is not intended to be used in snow/ice or at near freezing temperatures.
Where this tire really excels is on wet roads. That isn't to say that it's dry traction is sub-par, its just that the tire design really lends itself to working well on wet roads. Drivers can expect to get around 40,000 miles out of a set, with an asymmetric tread design and proper tire rotations. So if you're looking for a tire that has some good, but not great traction for this performance category, and will get you a few more miles per gallon, then you should keep this tire on your radar.
